Photographing the McCargo family is always so much fun. Chrissy is incredibly creative when it comes to the session – always bringing adorable props to really make their session unique. But this year, they brought COLOR (and balloons). I met up with them in Patterson Park in a historic district of Baltimore City where there is a ton of energy and there are so many people around checking out the park and the local neighborhood ice cream joint, B-MORE LICKS. If you haven't been to B-MORE LICKS yet, its definitely a place you don't want off your radar - there are more than 25 different flavors of soft-serve ice cream and more flavors than that for the classic hand-dipped scoops. Back in the fall, Chrissy, her husband, Calvin, and their daughter Cassidy started a YouTube channel called “Best Day Ever.” When I photographed this family back in the later part of the summer, the YouTube channel had not been started yet, but was a dream they were planning. Cassidy is 7 and LOVES watching fun YouTube videos. When Chrissy asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up, Cassidy responded that she wanted to be a YouTube star. Well why wait until you are an adult to be a YouTube star when you can be one now?
So in a way, this session was unlike any other session that I’ve ever done by creating a branding session while updating their family portraits for their home. It allowed me to get my creative juices flowing after spending more time behind a computer screen in recent months dues to COVID-19 instead of outside photographing joyous weddings and loving families. The YouTube channel is designed to inspire families to have the BEST DAY EVER. Calvin, Chrissy and Cassidy explore a variety of destinations that is fun for the whole family regardless of age. Parents, it is very important that you feel like kids again also! So, when you need a fun family-friendly idea for the day, go to their channel to get some fun ideas.
