A few weeks ago, I received a very excited and urgent email stating that Yajas wanted to propose to his long time girlfriend, Prerna, his girlfriend of 7 years. Earlier in the week, they had made a last minute decision to leave their home in New York City and come to Baltimore to visit college friends - and be in the neighborhood where their love story began when they were both getting their Masters at John's Hopkins.
Yajas shared all his plans - to spend the day visiting their favorite local spots and then dinner and drinks with friends toasting and celebrating the night away. While initially the plan was to propose at Patterson Park by the Pagoda, I knew that the tulips were in bloom at Sherwood Gardens and ran the idea by Yajas - to create a new memory and a new location for Prerna to remember when her best friend asked her to be his wife. And that is exactly what happened.
Sherwood Gardens was bustling with people - parents taking photos of their kids before heading off to prom, families spending the gorgeous afternoon picnicking and couples with their pups enjoying the sunshine and unusually warm, spring-like weather. But this little section of the park was made for Prerna and Yajas. It was their little oasis. Onlookers gawked at the special moment between the couple and celebrated with them after Prerna wiped away happy tears. It was incredible witnessing such a special moment and worth every fast-paced heartbeat, with fingers crossed, that a "yes" would soon follow after a very important question. Very soon after the proposal, Yajas and Prerna FaceTimed family in India before we did a few portraits to celebrate. When clients place their trust in me to help them plan a special moment, even a few hundred miles away, it's worth every anxious thought and plan knowing that it will all turn out the way that it is supposed to.
